Hand-colored woodblock New Year prints issued to celebrate the first year of Chinese Liberation and founding of the People's Republic of China; captioned entirely in Chinese for domestic distribution. To survive within the new political framework, traditional woodblock artists adapted their craft to create political propaganda images for Chairman Mao and the Chinese Communist Party. The same prints were also issued with additional captions in English and Russian for overseas distribution. Group includes: [Chairman Mao receiving model workers], [Our hero returning home], [Reducing the land rent] and [The new tractor exhibition].
